The Muriwai Volunteer Lifeguard Service found its origins in 1948 after a series of near tragedies encouraged the local community to form a lifesaving club. For over sixty years Muriwai lifeguards have patrolled this isolated paradise, preventing injury and loss of life on one of Auckland's most popular beaches.
