SPCA Otago

About & Description

Welcome to the Otago SPCA. The Otago Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Incorporated (SPCA Otago) has been a voice for animal welfare for over 129 years. Together with our generous supporters we continue to work hard to improve the lives of animals in the Otago region. We encourage the humane treatment of all animals and to prevent cruelty being inflicted upon them. We do everything we can to ensure that all animals in the Otago region (from Waipahi to Haast, up to Hampden and including Dunedin) are being looked after. We want everyone in our area to know how to look after their animals and give them the love and respect they deserve. Every year at the SPCA Otago haven in Dunedin we care for thousands of animals that have been lost, abandoned, injured, or abused. We appreciate your interest and support.

General Info

If you find an injured or stray animal or see a case of abuse, we’re here to help. We’re on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. To REPORT A LOST PET go to Lostpet.co.nz - this is the main database used by the SPCA for lost animals. Posting on this page will not always be checked immediately so we advise against advertising here. Do you have room in your life for a special companion? At the Otago SPCA we work hard to ensure that all healthy animals coming into our care are offered the chance to be placed in loving new homes. Before an animal is put up for adoption they are microchipped, vaccinated, worm and flea treated, dogs and puppies undergo a temperament assessment as well. Here at SPCA Auckland we do not sell our animals. We do, however, ask for assistance to partially recover the costs of rescue, rehabilitation, and healthcare. Adoption costs: $150 Kittens (Up to 6 months) $130 Adult cats (6 months to 7 years) $250 Dogs and Puppies Volunteering at the Otago SPCA Animal Center is a big commitment but one you will find extremely rewarding.Volunteers help with the cats, dogs, and small animals. Each job has its own tasks, including: Cleaning cages. Feeding the animals. Bathing and caring for the animals. Walking dogs. Interacting with cats. Taking care of our small animals (guinea pigs, rabbits, rats and mice). Did you know that the Otago SPCA does not receive any government funding. Everything we do is funded by supporters like you. Your gift today will ensure that we can continue to rescue and re-home animals.
