The Royal New Zealand Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is the largest animal welfare charity in New Zealand and the only charity with the power to prosecute in cases of animal cruelty, abandonment and mistreatment. As a charity, we receive only 1% of our funding from the government - and this funding is for rural cases only (involving animals on farms). As such, we rely almost entirely on the generosity of the public to carry out our life-saving work. The SPCA is the one organisation that encompasses the needs of all animals and we receive no government funding.
