Established in 1991, after ACCESS tutors were told by ETSA, that their service contracts would not be renewed. Community Educators from many local agencies met and decided they wanted an organisation that would run differently to ACCESS. The Open Learning Centre became incorporated under the Incorporated Societies Act, 1908 and in 2000 the name was changed to Te Whare Akonga ~ Open Learning Centre Manawatu Incorporated. We provide literacy services in Palmerston North with outreaches to various towns and cities in Aotearoa New Zealand.
