Yakina African-Style Drum and Dance is an Auckland community of dancers and musicians. We offer community dance classes and are available for performances.

Yakina African-Style Drum and Dance is an Auckland based community of dancers and musicians. We offer community classes and are available for dance workshops and local performances. We draw our inspiration from rhythms and dances from mainly West Africa and Zimbabwe. We are also influenced by contemporary community dance practice and yoga. Our teachers include: Chris Berry, Naby Bangoura, Mohammed Bangoura, Bismark Kofi, Epizo Bangoura and Jimi Dale. Kristine Walsh teaches African-Style Dance classes with Live Drumming on Wednesdays during the school term. In the community classes, there is space for free self-expression, building new movement sequences and for enhancing one’s sense of rhythm. Classes are open to beginners or experienced movers!
